Croft

In the novel Mrs McGinty's Dead, Croft was the butler of the Carpenter's. Croft took down a telephone message from Mrs Upward asking Eve Carpenter to come over for coffee. Eve decided not to go. When Mrs Upward was subsequently found murdered, Eve rediscover that she needed a concrete alibi and offered Croft and his wife some money to say that she had been home all night. The Crofts declined the offer. As Poirot told Eve, her unwise move had probably ended up persuading her servants that she was the murderer.
