In the novel Absent in the Spring, Crayminster is the hometown of Joan Scudamore and the location of most of her acquaintances who form the subjects of her reminiscences. There is little information in the text about where it is located. However the text mentions that from London, one goes "down to" Crayminster, suggesting that it is in one of the counties south of London. The station of departure appears to be Victoria Station and the journey from London to Crayminster by rail takes one and a half hours.
