In the novel Ordeal by Innocence, P. C. Good assists Superintendent Huish in his investigations after the case of the murder of Rachel Argyle is reopened. One of his key contributions is finding a witness, Cyril Green, whose evidence opens up a new line of inquiry.

Cyril had been down the new road with some friends on the evening of the murder. His mother, Mrs Green, questions what he was doing there. P. C. Good knows that some people who lived in the area had reported that their chrysanthemums were missing, and that some "bad characters of the village" would encourage young people to provide them with flowers, which they would sell. However, he also knows that the present moment is not the time to go into "past cases of delinquency", so he merely tells Mrs Green that boys are boys, and will go "larking around".
