In the novel They do it with Mirrors, Constable Dodgett is a policeman assisting Inspector Curry in the murder investigation. Inspector Curry has Constable Dodgett run from where Alexis Restarick was standing on the night of the murder, to the house, and back. Inspector Curry times Constable Dodgett with a stopwatch, to see how long it would have taken Alexis to run to the house, murder Christian Gulbrandsen, and run back to the car, before making his entrance in the Great Hall.

Constable Dodgett is described as "breathing like a steam engine" by the time he runs back to remain Inspector Curry. He says that this is because of having bronchitis the previous winter.
