In the novel Sleeping Murder, Colonel Melrose is a Police Officer. He told Inspector Primer about Jane Marple. He met her while investigating the murder of Lucius Protheroe.
Naming[]
Colonel Melrose is only mentioned in the novel Sleeping Murder. He is supposed to have known Miss Marple during the events of the novel The Murder at the Vicarage, but there is no Colonel Melrose in that novel. It is not impossible that Agatha Christie meant the character mentioned in Sleeping Murder actually is Colonel Malchett, the police officer in charge of the case in The Murder at the Vicarage.
