In the short story The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding, Colonel Horace Lacey was the owner of Kings Lacey and Poirot's host.

Colonel Lacey was played by Frederick Treves in the film adaptation of the story in Series 3 of ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot. Colonel Lacey's occupation was not given in the original story. In the film adaptation, he was an Egyptologist and an old friend of King Fuad of Egypt. He was one of England's foremost archaeologists and his house at Kings Lacey was "a magnet for all sorts of people with interests in Egypt."
