In the authorised continuation short story Miss Marple's Christmas, Collins is the gardener at Gossington Hall. He had apparently been serving for some years but more recently the Bantrys had to hire an under-gardener Bertie Finch because Collins had grown too old to do heavy digging. At the beginning of the story, Dolly Banty praised Collin for having outdone himself in producing a very good Christmas Tree.
