In the short story The Case of the Missing Will, Coghan is a workman who is employed by a firm of builders in Plymouth. Some time before his death, Andrew Marsh employed the firm to do some building works in his house Crabtree Manor in Devon. Coghan told Poirot that among the jobs he had to do, one involved creating a secret compartment in the old brick fireplace in his study.
