In the short story The Herb of Death, Clodderham Court is the house where Sir Ambrose Bercy and his ward Sylvia Keene lived. Also residing there were a large number of others who all form the main characters in the story. Nearby is the neighbouring property "Fairlies" which is the residence of Jerry Lorimer who is engaged to Sylvia. There is no description of the house itself other than the mention that Sir Ambrose had a lift installed because he could not walk up stairs easily in view of his heart condition. Where the house is located is also not stated in the text.

The property is entailed and so Sir Ambrose could not will it away as he wished. Upon his death, the house passed on to Martin Bercy, a son who Sir Ambrose had fallen out with.
