In the novel The Murder at the Vicarage, Clara is the maid of Mrs Price-Ridley. She is nineteen and she is smitten with the fishmonger's boy. She heard something, which she thought was a sneeze, on the day of the murder of Colonel Protheroe.
In The Body in the Library, Clara tells Mrs Price-Ridley that a woman's body was found in Colonel Bantry's library. She says that the woman did not have any clothes on, which is not true. She also mentions the fishmonger's young man, saying that he says he would never have believed it of Colonel Bantry.
