Canon of Chichester Cathedral

In the novel The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side, Miss Marple thought of an uncle of hers who had been a Canon of Chichester Cathedral. As a child, Miss Marple had gone to stay with him in the Close, and so she knew what a Close was perfectly. She could not imagine why all the streets in The Development were called Closes, when they were not really Closes at all.
