Brook Street is a street in the exclusive central London district of Mayfair.[1]
Brook Street in the works by Agatha Christie[]
- Brook Street is the location of Madame Violette's, the hat shop where Janet Smith is employed. (A Fairy in the Flat/A Pot of Tea)
- The showroom of Rosamund Darnley's dressmaking business, Rose Mond, Ltd., is located on 622 Brook Street. (Evil Under the Sun)
- Cynthia Dacres has her dressmaking shop, Ambrosine, Ltd., on Brook Street. (Three Act Tragedy)
Five Little Pigs[]
In the novel Five Little Pigs, Brook Street is the street on which the residence of Lord and Lady Dittisham is located. In the initial phase of his investigations, Poirot visits Brook Street to interview Lady Dittisham. He is first received by Lord Dittisham who conversed with him a while before asking a servant to take Poirot to Lady Dittisham's private sitting room.
Poirot notes a contrast in the way the house is furnished as he progresses through the house to Lady Dittisham's sitting room. The large drawing room where he met Lord Dittisham is sombre and austere whereas Lady Dittsham's area is lavishly furnished but not necessarily tastefully.
