In the short story The Baited Trap (later chapter 12 of The Big Four), Bronsen is the manager of Hastings' ranch in Argentina. Hastings received a telegram in apparently sent by Bronsen informing him that Mrs Hastings had disappeared, possibly kidnapped by a gang calling itself "The Big Four".
