The British School of Archaeology in Iraq (BSAI, present name: British Institute for the Study of Iraq, BISI) is a British institution devoted to research into the ancient civilizations and languages of Mesopotamia. It was founded in 1932 as a memorial to the life and works of Gertrude Bell. It is one of the British International Research Institutes.[1]
From 1947 to 1961 Max Mallowan was the director of the school. Barbara Parker worked there as a secretary and librarian from 1950 to 1961. She was the president of the organisation from 1983 to 1993.
During Mallowan's time, the British School of Archaeology had premises in the Beit Melek Ali in Baghdad.
