In the novel The Body in the Library, Braeside is a villa in Daneleigh Vale near Danemouth. It is the home of Major and Mrs Reeves and their daughter Pamela. Detective Superintendent Harper, who had to go there to inform the Reeves about their daughter's death observed that the property was the sort of place which had been built fairly freely in the countryside in the last twenty years, and usually occupied by retired civil servants or military officers. It comprised a house with a large garden of about one and a half acres.
