In the novel Murder is Easy, Bonner is a young Police Officer. He was in charge of the investigation of the hit and run death of Lavinia Pinkerton. In chapter 18, Sir William Ossington asked Bonner to give him and Luke Fitzwilliam the latest findings. According to Bonner, witnesses at the scene of the car accident described the car involved as a Rolls. Moreover a witness at the scene of the car accident had told someone else the car number was FZX 4498, a number which matched the car belonging to Lord Whitfield. Bonner thought this number was wrong because the chauffeur reported that at the time the car was parked at Boomington House. He was having tea and had a perfect alibi. The car did not leave the spot until 6.30 in the evening.
