In the short story The Kidnapped Prime Minister, Mr Bernard Dodge was a member of the war cabinet and personal friend of the Prime Minister David MacAdam. Mr Dodge and Lord Estair approached Hercule Poirot to seek his help to locate the Prime Minister after he had disappeared on the way to an Allied Conference in France.

Bernard Dodge was played by Ronald Hines in the film adaptation of The Kidnapped Prime Minister in Series 2 of ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot. Here he became "Sir Bernard Dodge" and was not a government minister but the Permanent Under-secretary of the Foreign Office. Unlike his namesake in the original story, Sir Bernard actually accompanied Poirot as he travelled about during the investigation. His character is used mainly to convey the exasperation everyone was feeling about Poirot's methods.
