In the Harley Quin short story The Man from the Sea, Anthony Cosden is a man whom Mr Satterthwaite meets while on a Spanish resort island. At the time of the encpunter, Anthony was planning to commit suicide by throwing himself off the cliff. The meeting with Satterthwaite prevented it. To Satterthwaite's surprise, Anthony tells him that he had some to the same spot the night before and had been prevented from killing himself by meeting another man who must have been in fancy dress because he was in a "kind of harlequin rig". This stranger turned up suddenly, "as though he came out of the sea".
Anthony told Satterthwaite that he had had a good life, "an average income, a little soldiering, a good deal of sport whenever sport offered, plenty of friends...." but his doctors had just told him that he is suffering from a terminal illness and has six months to live. Satterthwaite's efforts on his behalf forms the main plot of the story.
