In the short story Strange Jest, Ansteys is the family seat of the Stroud family. Miss Marple goes there on behalf of the Edward Rossiter and Charmian Stroud. They are convinced that their Uncle Mathew Stroud had hidden a treasure somewhere in the house. He had hinted as much to them before he died and assured them that they would be taken care of. When Miss Marple got there, she found that a thorough search had already been mounted. The gardens and lawns were heavily trenched. Every tree had been dug around. In the cellars, flag stones had been lifted up.
