In the novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles, Annie is one of the two maids of the Styles Court household during July 1916, along with Dorcas. The character is interviewed by Poirot and Hastings, which receive a vital clue. Annie tells them that the cocoa tray of Emily Inglethorp had some "salt" on it which is identified as strychnine by Hastings.
