In Le crime ne paie pas, the French adaptation of The Murder on the Links, André (a.k.a. Dédé) was a clochard living in an abandoned Melville factory. He was strangled and disfigured by Paul Deboise to simulate the latter's death.
Dédé's friend talkied to the police about this, but he wasn't taken seriously.
