In the novel At Bertram's Hotel, Amy McAllister is a woman from Boston, and a friend of Miss Marple. Some time before the events in the book, she had stayed at Bertram's Hotel with her husband and had written to Miss Marple to tell her about it. From this, Miss Marple learned that the hotel still existed and she choose this destination when her nephew Raymond West and his wife wanted to send her somewhere for a holiday.
