Agatha Christie Wiki

In the novel The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side, Amy is a former maid of Miss Marple, who was distinctly moronic. She was a St Faith's girl. Miss Marple thinks of Amy when she is remembering how she used to have parlourmaids in the past. Girls like Amy would come to her to be "trained", and then go on to better-paid jobs elsewhere. They had not been very good with the telephone, and not good at arithmetic at all, but they knew how to wash up and how to make beds. They had skills, rather than education. Now, it was the educated girls who took up jobs doing domestic chores, like Cherry Baker.
