In the novel Sad Cypress, Amelia Mary Sedley is a witness from New Zealand as to the identity of Mary Draper. She resides ordinarily at 17 Charles Street, Boonamba, Auckland.

Amelia is called as a witness during Elinor Carlisle's trial. She states that she has known Mary Draper for over twenty years, and knows that her maiden name was Mary Riley, as she had attended her marriage. She also tells the court that Mary Draper was not a native of New Zealand, but had come out of England.

Amelia tells the court that she had seen Mary Draper in court, giving evidence under a different name. She also states that Mary had been a hospital nurse before her marriage.
