In the novel The Body in the Library, Alice is mentioned by Miss Marple. She is a former maid of Miss Marple.
In The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side it is revealed that she was a St Faith's girl. Miss Marple thinks of her when she is remembering how she used to have parlourmaids in the past. Girls like Alice, from St Faith's Orphanage, would come to Miss Marple to be "trained", before leaving for better-paid jobs elsewhere. Miss Marple reflected on how they had not been very good with the telephone, and not good at arithmetic, but they knew how to wash up and how to make beds. They had skills, rather than education. However, now it seemed to be the educated girls who took up jobs doing domestic chores, like Cherry Baker.
