In the novel One, Two, Buckle My Shoe, Alfred Biggs is the page boy at the dental practice of 58 Queen Charlotte Street. At the time of the events in the book he had just starting working for two weeks and had "consistently and unvaryingly done everything wrong". Georgina Morley, the sister of dentist Henry Morley considered the boy "a trial". It was Biggs's duty to show patients up to the dentists' offices. He also discovered the body of Henry Morley after he had been shot. By all accounts he would have been a critical witness but unfortunately Chief Inspector Japp found him not particularly coherent and not especially bright.
Biggs had a tendency to get names wrong. Some of his more amusing examples were:
- Miss Shirty - for Miss Kirby.
- Mrs Soap - for Mrs Soames.
- Mr Peerer - for Poirot.
- Colonel Arrow-bumby - for Colonel Abercrombie. This one puzzled Poirot for quite a long time.
Biggs was described as having a "freckled face, red hair, and an earnest manner". He wore a page-boy's uniform while working at the dental practice.
When Japp and Poirot interviewed him, Biggs was "divided between nervousness, enjoyment, and a morbid fear of being blamed for everything that had occurred". He told them that no one had come to the house without an appointment, and that no one from the outside could get in without a key. However, they could easily let themselves out once they were inside.
Biggs mentioned that he was reading an American detective story called Death at Eleven-Forty-Five. According to Mr Reilly, Biggs was also a film fan.
