In L'affaire Protheroe, the French adaptation of Agatha Christie's The Murder at the Vicarage for the TV series Les Petits Meurtres d'Agatha Christie, Alexandre Protheroe is the parallel of Lucius Protheroe in the original novel. Like Lucius, he is a thoroughly unpleasant person who is disliked by many. In this adaptation, he is the owner of Agence Protheroe, an advertising agency. As a boss, Alexandre would demand sexual favours from his secretaries. As one former secretary Julie Boyer told the police, Protheroe was not a person one could easily say no to. Boyer left her job and subsequently attempted suicide. At the beginning of the episode, another secretary Hélène Jouve was found hanging in the office premises, as though she had committed suicide. It was later shown that she had been strangled by Protheroe when she threatened to go to the police to report his behaviour. Alice Avril went in undercover as the replacement secretary for Hélène Jouve and she also experienced harassment from Alexandre.
Alexandre Protheroe was married to a former secretary, Anne who helps him manage his advertising business. There were a number of differences between Alexandre and Lucius. First, he did suspect that his wife was having an affair with the cameraman Tristan Julliard. Second, Alexandre genuinely loved his daughter Lise Protheroe and she loved him in return. In the original Lettice Protheroe hated her father.
The part of Alexandre Protheroe is played by Julien Boisselier.
