Alex Gabassi was born in São Paulo, Brazil. He started his theatrical career by working with The Complicité theatre company as stage manager and assistant to Simon McBurney. From 2000 to 2004, he directed three episodes of the Videobrasil Author's Collection, a series of documentaries which explored the work and thought processes of contemporary international artists.[1] From 2012-2015 he directed episodes of Brazilian series such as Destino and Psi. In 2017 he directed 6 episodes of the ITV series The Frankenstein Chronicles. In 2018 he directed the BBC John Malkovich miniseries The ABC Murders. More recently he has also directed 4 episodes of the Netflix series The Crown.
