In the Hercule Poirot novel Five Little Pigs, Alderbury is an estate in Devon. It was the family home of the Crale family. The last owners of the family was Amyas Crale and his wife Caroline. Both died more than fifteen years befor the events in the novel.
In the grounds there is an enclosed garden overlooking the sea, called the Battery. It was here that Amyas Crale painted the portrait of Elsa Greer and where he finally died.
After the death of Amyas and Caroline the house was sold and was later turned into a hostel.
Inspiration[]
