In the Miss Marple short story The Tuesday Night Club, Albert Jones is a travelling salesman for a firm of manufacturing chemists.

Jones had gotten the house maid Gladys Linch pregnant and promised to marry her after his wife died. He then conspired with Gladys to murder Mrs Jones. They appeared to have been successful as, for a time Scotland Yard was unable to put together a foolproof case despite lingering suspicions.

Jones did not marry Gladys in the end but instead left her for another woman. Some time later, as Gladys was dying, she confessed that Jones had given her arsenic laced hundreds and thousands to use in a trifle for Mrs Jones to eat and which killed her.
