In the authorised Miss Marple continuation short story The Murdering Sort, Alan Westover is the son of the wealthy American tycoon Josiah Westover and the brother of Michael. He is the father of Sarah and Harry. Lucretia is his second wife. According to his son Harry, Alan is also caught up with his latest can't-fail scheme to make money which inevitably fails. He is almost destitute and this gave him a plausible and strong motive in wanting his father dead.
